“I wish to express my gratitude to the Ombudsman because through your tireless effort Dedan Kimathi University paid all my dues which they had held for close to five years. Thank you for fighting for the voiceless,” these were the words of Ms. Anne Mwangi former lecturer at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology(DEKUT).
According to Ms. Mwangi, she was appointed by DEKUT as a part time lecturer at the Technical and Professional Studies department to teach during the September-December 2014 semester. As per the appointment letter, the university was supposed to pay her Sh40,000 at the end of the semester. However, efforts to have the university pay including through regular visits to the university did her did not bear fruit thus prompting her to lodge a complaint with the Commission through the Nyeri Huduma Center.
The Commission by way of inquiry took up the issue with Vice Chancellor leading to payment of the amount owed to her.
