Imagine not being able to enjoy services for not having a national identity card? That is what Anthony Gachugu has had to contend with following inordinate delay by the National Registration Bureau to replace his lost card. According to Mr. Gachugu, he lost his identity card in March 2018 and immediately applied for replacement on 21st March 2018 but was later informed that there was a problem with his fingerprints which made him to have his fingerprints taken afresh and reapply for the replacement of his ID for a second time.
The Bureau Did not issue the ID to him in two weeks as stipulated in their charter. Mr. Gachuku reported that he was unable to access some services which required him to have an original identity card thus prompting him to lodge a complaint with the Commission.
The Commission took up the matter with the Director, National Registration Bureau leading to the processing of the ID card. The Bureau on August 21, 2019 indicated the ID card was ready for collection. Mr. Gachugu in an email to the Commission on September 25, 2019 confirmed he had indeed collected it.
